Christmas in May - A new Jules Shear song!

In April I posted a few paragraphs about Jules Shear. One of the best, and most underrated, songwriters on the planet. It had been a while since I had heard anything about him and decided it was time to find out if he was planning anything new.

Today, out of the blue, I got an email from his manager, Peter Lubin, thanking me for the kind words about Jules. It's easy to be kind when you're talking about a musical genius whose work you've admired for decades. Anyway, Peter shared a new Jules song with me that will appear on his new CD as soon as they find a suitable outlet for it.

Here's Peter's email:
Hey Wildsects:

I just found your page about Jules Shear. Thanks for the kind words! I'm attaching an mp3 for you of a demo of a song that will appear on Jules' next album once we find a suitably appreciative outlet for it. Parenthetically, I also sent this to a site called Songs: Illinois, who did a write-up on Jules recently, so it's not completely exclusive.

He's alive and very well and writing profusely. Feel free to get back in touch if you have any questions.

Kind regards,
Peter Lubin
I wrote back to Peter and thanked him profusely for the song. I don't care if it's exclusive to Wild Sects or not. I GOT TO HEAR A NEW JULES SONG BEFORE IT WAS RELEASED! And I LOVE it! Just as I was coming down from that high, Peter sent yet another song. Unfortunately I can't share that one as he stipulated that it was not to be circulated. He did, however, give permission for me to share the first song he sent. I asked Peter to keep me up on the progress of the new CD. When I know, you'll know.

For your listening pleasure and hopefully to entice you to explore more Jules Shear, here is Bad Connection (4.2mb - be patient)

UPDATE: I hang my head in shame. In the April post I mistakenly credited Cyndi Lauper's "Time After Time" to Jules. I have since edited the earlier post. Jules also composed "If She Knew What She Wanted" recorded by The Bangles.

I should know this one but didn't
he write the song "If He Knew What
She Wanted" that was a hit for The
Bangles? Always liked that song!

YES HE DID! I forgot about that one. See, I knew that everyone had heard his stuff and most just don't realize it. I actually like Jules' accoustic version the best. Leave it to Jim to have excellent taste in music. FYI - jimbob is Jim McPherson. A frequent contributor to Wild Sects.
